Borrowing Guidelines

Library Cards

Please note that your library card is non-transferable. Please notify the Library at once if your card is lost. Current identification is required to obtain a card. Adult DVDs, Videos and Music CDs require an Adult card. There is a charge of $2.50 for replacing a lost card.

Use of Personal Information

Any personal information collected from library users will only be used for library purposes such as requesting library materials or sending out overdue notices. Scugog Memorial Public Library will share personal information with other libraries with which we have reciprocal borrowing agreements.

The Library Board protects personal information but also cooperates with legal authorities.

Loan Periods

Books, Audiobooks, Magazines, & Instructional Films 21 days
New Books 14 days
Feature Films & TV Series 7 days

All Movies are for home-use only.
Reference books and items in the Local History Collection do not circulate.

Quantities

99 items per card.

Hold Request

If an item is checked out, you may place a reserve on that item (except for New movies). The library will contact you when the item is available.

Renewals

Renewals for borrowed material can be done online or at the circulation desk with your library card. Items cannot be renewed if another patron has placed a hold request.

Overdue Items

Patrons will receive email notifications including:

  • an advance notice that an item will soon be due
  • a notice on the day the item is due
  • an overdue notice reminder when an item is 2 weeks overdue
  • a second overdue notice when an item is 4 weeks overdue, notifying them that they cannot take out any more items until the overdue items are returned
  • a final billing notice at 6 weeks letting them know that a charge for the replacement cost of the item has been added to their account

When overdue items are returned, any replacement charges or blocks will be removed. We just want our items back so that others may use them.

Lost Items

Items that are lost will be charged at the replacement cost.

Damaged Materials

Charges are assessed for damaged materials. The patron will pay the full replacement cost if the item is deemed no longer suitable for circulation.

Refund – Lost Item Found

A lost item that is found and returned to the library within 12 months after payment can receive a refund (minus the fine) upon showing their receipt. The returned item must be in usable condition.
