Movie Tickets are $2 each or $5 for the whole family. Detailed ratings information for all films are available at the circulation desk. Children 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.  
End of Summer FREE Family Movie Night
Celebrate a summer of reading with the whole family! Join us for a FREE Family Movie Night (title to be announced).  

All children who have registered for the TD Summer Reading Club are eligible to receive a ticket for themselves and their parent(s) or caregiver(s). 

When: Saturday, August 24th at 6 pm

Tickets will be available as of Saturday, August 17th. Ask for your free tickets at the Information Desk.  Please bring your Read & Bead necklace or your TD Summer Reading Club booklet as proof of registration in the TD Summer Reading Club.
Tea & Books
Come and discover a new author or find out more about the titles creating a buzz in the book biz. Join us for an afternoon of tea, treats and great conversation, where Library staff will discuss their latest fiction and non-fiction picks.

Knowing Ticks & Preventing Lyme Disease
The York-Durham Chapter of the Ontario Woodlot Association presents a free workshop on Ticks and
Lyme Disease. The featured speakers are Toni Moran, B.Sc., B.A.Sc., CPHI(C) , Senior Public Health Inspector for the Vector-borne Disease Control Program, Durham Region Health Department and Kathleen Taylor, DVM, a local Veterinarian practising in North Durham.
Topics include:
• identification and life cycle of ticks
• risks to humans and pets
• what to do if you find a tick

When: Tuesday, July 2nd at 6:30 pm registration and refreshments & 7:00-8:30 pm presentations.

Zoomer Tech Club
Are you looking for some guidance with your new computer, tablet or cell phone? Our Zoomer Tech Club is and excellent group for seniors who want to learn at their own pace and socialize a bit at the same time. It also provides a great opportunity to help others by trading technology tips and tricks.

Every Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm

This is a drop-in program and registration is not required.
LEGO Contest
Youth, Tweens, Teens and Families can enter their own Lego creations! Pick up a submission form at the Library beginning June 22nd.

Submission Date: Friday, July 12th between 10am and 6pm or Saturday, July 13th between 10 am and 5 pm

Pick up Date: Saturday, July 20th between 10am & 5pm or Sunday, July 21st between 1pm & 5pm.

There are 4 age categories this year:
1) Ages 8 and under (Youth)
2) Ages 9-12 (Tween)
3) Ages 13-18 (Teen)
4) Family Effort

Winners will be announced Friday July 19th. There will be a prize awarded in each category.

Bonus! Every entry receives a ticket to see The LEGO Movie 2 (Friday, July 19th at 2 pm).
Techsplorers Club (for Tweens)
Geek out at the Library this summer! We’ll be exploring coding, virtual reality and robotics and more in these 4 fun & informative sessions.

When: Fridays, July 5th to 26th (participants sign up for all sessions)

This program is open to kids ages 10-13 and is free of charge. Please register at the information desk or call 905-985-7686 x101. Spaces are very limited, so register early!
New! Family Fort Night
Join us for an amazing after-hours event at the library.
Bring blankets, sheets, tablecloths, etc. and a flashlight and build your own little reading fort for some cozy family literacy! We’ll start off the night with a great storytime and staff can help you find a book the whole family will enjoy!

Getting Ready for K
Is your child starting kindergarten in September? 
Join staff from EarlyOn for their Getting Ready for K program! 

Getting Ready for K is a Kindergarten readiness program for you and your child. Being aware of how your child learns will help you help your child transition to full-day kindergarten.
Play based activities that build social skills, language and literacy skills, fine and gross motor as well as discussion and handouts for families will help you and your child get ready for Kindergarten.

When: Wednesday, August 28th and Thursday, August 29th, 2 pm to 3:30 pm (participants attend both sessions)

TD Summer Reading Club
Celebrate Canada all summer long with the TD Summer Reading Club!

New! Read & Bead!
Kids aged 4 and up will receive their choice of a necklace or keychain-length ball chain and a ‘brag tag’ just for signing up for the TD Summer Reading Club. Kids can collect beads all summer long, just for time spent reading! Come in and report your time to us and choose from a wide variety of beads! Challenge your friends to see who can read the most!
When: All Summer Long! Registration begins Saturday, June 22nd and kids can collect beads by reporting at the library right up until Labour Day weekend.

New! Wandering (book) Worms: We’re taking summer reading outside in this drop-in program for children ages 5 to 8 with their parent/caregiver. This program consists of an outdoor storytime (weather permitting) with age-appropriate reading selections and a nature-based craft. Participants will receive ‘read & bead’ rewards for time spent listening.  This is a Drop-In program, and registration is not required. 
Ages 5-8 with parent/caregiver. Mondays 10:30 to 11:30 am; July 8th to 29th

Weekly Crafts & Experiments: Join our Summer Reading Club Coordinator for weekly experiments, crafts and activities on Tuesday afternoons. This program is open to children ages 5 and up. Themes include: Happy Habitats, Underwater World, Fearless Fliers, Eerie Earth and Wild WeatherThis is a Drop-In program, and registration is not required. 
Ages 5 & up. Tuesdays 2pm to 3pm; July 2nd to 30th

New! Building & Battling: LEGO and Beyblades drop-in play. Join us for an afternoon of play! We’ll have LEGO available, including our LEGO Boost kits. We also have Beyblade stadiums so you can battle against your friends! Bring your Beyblades if you have them, but we’ll also have some on hand to use so everyone can join the fun! This is a Drop-In program, and registration is not required. 
Ages 6 & up. Wednesday 2pm to 4pm; July 17th & 31st only

Family Crafternoons: A great opportunity for families to explore arts & crafts together. Children of all ages can attend with their parents or caregivers to complete a variety of craft options. Different projects each week!  All Ages along with their Parents/Caregivers. This is a Drop-In Program.

Junior Makers: A bit like our Techsplorers, but for the junior set, this program will allow kids aged 6 to 9 to learn about and try out some new tech. Library staff will demonstrate some of our latest tech-toys like LEGO robotics and Makey Makey kits. Learning computational thinking has never been so much fun! This is a Drop-In program.
Ages 6-9. Fridays 10:30 to 11:30 am; July 5th to 26th
Summer Preschool Reading Club
You don’t have to know how to read to join the TD Summer Reading Club! Children of all ages can register for the club and participate by attending our story time programs! Pre-Registration is required for all of our Preschool Programs.

Story Strolls
Our popular program for children from 18 months to 5 years, along with their parents or caregivers, is taking the fun and early literacy outdoors for the summer. We’ll be taking a short stroll just outside the library, finding story pages along the way. We’ll wrap up with a nature-based craft that you can take home.
When: Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:15 from July 9th to August 6th
                                          
Pre-Reader Summer Reading Club      
Children ages 3 to 5 will enjoy a 45 minute session featuring stories, songs and take-home crafts. When: 10 to 10:45 am on Thursdays from July 11th to August 8th                                    

Parent ‘n’ Tot Summer Reading Club 
Bring your toddler for songs, stories and movement activities in this fast-paced, fun-filled half-hour program. For 1 and 2 year olds.
When: 11:30—noon on Wednesdays from July 10th to August 7th   

Babytime (0 to 18 months)
A half hour of fun for your littlest learner! Parents and Caregivers learn songs and fingerplays to share with baby at home.
When: 11-11 30 am on Thursdays from July 11th to August 8th.
