The Door You Came In -
SPECIAL EVENT
The Scugog Public Library, in partnership with Lynn McDonald, presents The Door You Came In, a powerful work of literature, theatre and music that brings David Macfarlane’s novel The Danger Tree to the stage in a collaboration of song and spoken word. Together, David Macfarlane and Douglas Cameron tell the story of a Newfoundland family and the war that changed it forever.

Co-written by David and Doug, this one hour play with musical interludes, evokes the madness of war and the glory of Newfoundland during World War One. Dave and Doug have performed this play in Newfoundland and Atlantic Canada, Ottawa, Stratford Festival, Tarragon Theatre and. next month, The McMichael Gallery Theater.

Carlos del Junco and the Blues Mongrels - SPECIAL EVENT
The Scugog Public Library, in partnership with Lynn McDonald, presents Master blues harmonica player, Carlos del Junco. Del Junco will be performing LIVE at the library for one night only with his trio, comprised himself on vocals & harmonica, Eric St Laurent on guitar, and Henry Heileg on bass.

Del Junco has released seven CDs during the past fifteen years. Each (including his latest Steady Movin’) is a genre-zapping fusion of blues, Latin, bluegrass, jazz, country and classical elements that has critics and fans scrambling to find descriptive superlatives. In the twelve year history of Canada’s Maple Blues Awards, del Junco has been named Harmonica Player of the Year seven times.

Penetrating the Impenetrable Forest
We have partnered with North Durham Nature to offer presentations on a variety of ecology and nature-related themes. In September, join Geoff Carpentier, as he recounts the adventures he and his wife, Kim, had on their recent trip to Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. The Impenetrable Forest is a world-class site that hosts most of Uganda's mountain gorillas. Geoff and Kim also encountered chimps, giraffes, lions, leopards, cheetahs and myriad exotic birds when they visited Rwanda and Tanzania.

North Durham Nature presentations at the library are open to the public and NDN membership is not required to attend.

Zoomer Tech Club
Are you looking for some guidance with your new computer, tablet or cell phone? Our Zoomer Tech Club is and excellent group for seniors who want to learn at their own pace and socialize a bit at the same time. It also provides a great opportunity to help others by trading technology tips and tricks.

Every Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm

This is a drop-in program and registration is not required.
FREE Mindfulness Meditation Workshop
Join instructor Genevieve Ford, of  Inner Reflection, for an introductory 1-hour instruction on Mindfulness Meditation Techniques to help release and reduce stress. Meditation assists people in living more fully in the present moment to experience peace, happiness and well-being in their lives.

The free 1 hour class consists of: body relaxation, breath of calmness, stretching in the chair, hand massage with essential oils, mindful techniques, as well as time at the close of the class for questions.

New! Afternoon Acrylic Art Classes
We have partnered with the Port Perry Seniors Club to offer a 10-week Introduction to Painting with Acrylics class at the library.  Registrants will need to bring a landscape photo/picture that they will paint during the classes.

When: Thursdays, 1-4 pm from September 12th to October 17th

This program is volunteer-led, so the only charge is a $10 materials fee, payable to the instructor at the first class.

Class size is limited to 10 participants, so registration is required. Please call 905-985-7686 x 101 to register or visit the Information Desk.  Registration begins August 30th at 10 am.

Travelogues
We offer Travelogue programs on the third Tuesday of each month, with speakers presenting on a wide array of travel destinations.

New! Homeschool Connect Program
Homeschoolers in Scugog can join us for this series of brand new, free, programs for kids in grades 1 to 8 with their parents or caregivers!
This is a great opportunity to engage in fun and educational activities, find out more about the materials that the library has to support learning, and get to know other homeschooling families in Scugog.

When: 1 to 2 pm on the following Thursdays:

October 17th: Techsplorations—kids and parents can explore technology through fun activities

November 21st: Exploring Art—participants can work on a variety of art projects appropriate to age and skill level

December 19th: Holiday Crafternoon—we will offer a variety of crafts that kids can make that are suitable for gift-giving

Annual Snowflake Sale
A unique opportunity to purchase handcrafted items from local artisans and support the Library.

Visit us from November 29th to December 21st , during regular library hours, for an opportunity to browse and buy a wide variety of handcrafted items created by local artists and artisans from displays throughout the library.
 
Favourites from previous years will be available, as well as work by new vendors. Choose from a wide variety of handmade products and treats. This is a great way to browse for unique gift ideas and support your library, as we receive a portion of all sales.

Bakersville Gingerbread Village
A Community tradition continues in December.
Hold on to that leftover Halloween candy! You'll need it for the masterpiece you'll be making in December! An annual tradition, Bakersville is a community project featuring gingerbread homes and buildings created by community members. Running from December 7th to December 31st, Bakersville offers a delightful celebration of the season.

Interested in participating in Bakersville? Pick up an information sheet at the library with gingerbread recipes and a tip sheet to complete your 'construction'. There is no entry fee and entries from individuals, families, or groups are all welcome. Just bring your creation to the library from December 3rd to December 5th.
