Happy Go Lucky

In a shift away from his usual exploration of the dark and dreary, director Mike Leigh (Vera Drake) takes a lighter look at life with "Happy-go-Lucky".  The film chronicles the daily comings and goings of 30-year-old Poppy, whose positive, easy-going outlook epitomizes the title. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

 
Tickets foreach film are $1 and may be purchased at the Library up to a week in advance of the show times.  Seating is limited, so purchase tickets early!

Teen Twilight Night
Join us on the DVD release date for a special screening of Twilight!                                                
It doesn't matter whether you're on Team Edward or Team Jacob, you'll all have a blast at Twilight Night.  Join us after-hours on Saturday night for a Twilight DVD release party.  We'll have a screening of the film, tons of snacks and chances to win some fabulous Twilight-related prizes!

March Break Madness!
Mad Science at the Library! 
This hands-on workshop will make learning about science a blast!  You'll do super-cool experiments & you even get to take home a project!  For kids in grades 1-6.  Tickets may be purchased beginning February 25th and are $4 each.  Spaces are limited to 30 participants, so get your tickets early!
When: Wednesday, March 18th at 2 pm.
 
Digital Photography Workshop with a Professional Photographer!
Join Jonathan van Bilsen, a professional photographer and founder of the North Durham Photography Association for this series of three workshops.  We'll learn all about taking all kinds of photos & the cool things you can do with digital photography.  For 8 to 12 year olds. Program is free! Each session builds on the last, so you must register for all three.  Spaces are limited, so register early. Bring a digital camera if you have one.
When: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 16th-18th from 10 am to 12 pm. 
 
Library Scavenger Hunt 
Do you know Dewey?  Think you know where to find everything in the Library?  Test your knowledge searching for clues throughout the Library.

Kid Concoctions
The bestselling series of books shows you how to make all kinds of cool stuff with basic household ingredients.  You'll take home a sample of the day's surprise concoction and a copy of the recipe to make more of your own at home!  Free!  Ages 6 and up. 
When: Friday, March 13th at 10 am and Thursday, March 19th at 2 pm.
 
  
'Bored' Games
This free drop-in program is a great March Break boredom-buster.  Kids of all ages can drop in to the Library and play a variety of classic board & card games. 
For all ages.

Egg Drop Challenge
Give your brain a workout with this engineering challenge.  Can you create a contraption to protect a raw egg from a ten-foot drop? Join us for this two-hour workshop where you'll work in a team to rise to the challenge! 
Ages 8 and up. 
When: Tuesday, March 17th, 2-4 pm.

 
'About Me' Book Workshop
Want to be an author & the main character in your own book?  Create a book that's a journal, scrapbook & storybook all in one!  Bring photos of yourself, your friends & family to include and we'll supply the rest!  This program is open to all ages, but kids under 8 should bring a grown-up to help them.  When: Friday, March 20th, 10 am-12 pm.

Wire Ring Workshop
Create a one of a kind piece of jewelry using beads and wire.  Free! For ages 8 and up.
When: Thursday, March 19th, 10-11 am.

Scugog Memorial Public Library is pleased to host a new program provided by an Early Literacy Specialist from Ontario Early Years.   This free program offers a half hour of music and movement for babies and their parents or caregivers.  Spaces are limited, so register early!
