Alzheimer Resources
We have partnered with Alzheimer Society of Durham Region to bring programs to the library to support individuals with cognitive (memory) change and their families and caregivers.

Brain Wave Café
A social and informal place for individuals with cognitive (memory) change to meet together socially in the community for stimulating conversation, support and other engaging activities. Friends and family welcome. Light refreshments available.
When: The fourth Thursday of each month, June 28th & August 23rd, 1-2:30 pm (no July date)

Zoomer Tech Club
Are you looking for some guidance with your new computer, tablet or cell phone? Our Zoomer Tech Club is and excellent group for seniors who want to learn at their own pace and socialize a bit at the same time. It also provides a great opportunity to help others by trading technology tips and tricks.

Every Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm

This is a drop-in program and registration is not required.
LEGO Contest
Youth, Tweens, Teens and Families can enter their own Lego creations! Pick up a submission form at the Library.

Submission Date: Friday, July 13th between 10am and 6pm or Saturday, July 14th between 10 am and 5 pm

Pick up Date: Sunday, July 22nd between 1pm & 5 pm or Monday, July 23rd between 10am & 6pm.

There are 4 age categories this year:
1) Ages 8 and under (Youth)
2) Ages 9-12 (Tween)
3) Ages 13-18 (Teen)
4) Family Effort

The Lego creations will be on display from Sunday, July 15th to Saturday, July 21st. There will be a prize awarded in each category.

Bonus! Every entry receives a ticket to a screening of The Lego Ninjago Movie (Friday, July 27th at 2 pm).
Techsplorers Club (for Tweens)
Geek out at the Library this summer! We’ll be exploring coding, virtual reality and robotics and more in these fun & informative sessions.

When: Fridays, July 6th to August 3rd (participants sign up for all sessions)

Monsters & Milfoil
Enjoy a wonderful live theatrical experience for the whole family thanks to Theatre on the Ridge.
It’s hard being the only monster in a small town lake, not to mention the lake’s only caretaker! This original production will entertain youngsters and share the history and importance of Lake Scugog through interactive fun and song. Made possible in partnership with the Scugog Lake Stewards and with the support of the Scugog Council for the Arts.

When: July 24, 31, August 7, 14, 16, 18 @ 1 pm

New! Paws to Read
We are thrilled to announce that we’ll be hosting the Therapeutic Paws of Canada program, Paws to Read this summer! This wonderful program provides children with the opportunity to practice their reading through sessions with a highly-trained therapy dog, who provides a nonjudgmental ‘audience’.

TPC volunteer Nancy and Sweetpea, her West Highland terrier, will be here Thursday afternoons and each child can sign up for a fifteen minute weekly appointment, which repeats for the six-week duration of the program. Registrants commit to attending all 6 weeks.

Mindful Eating for Families
Picky eaters? Food fights at the dinner table? Cooking 5 meals for 1 dinner? There may be a simple, happy solution in your future! Come and learn how Mindful Eating plays a role in family-style dining to make meal times fun for everyone again! This workshop is ideal for caregivers with children between 1-12 years old.

Kori Kostka is a local Registered Dietitian who has been practicing Mindful Eating for 10 years. She’s helped thousands implement mindful eating to manage illness, disease and prevention. She’s an international speaker and virtual coach

TD Summer Reading Club
Celebrate Canada all summer long with the TD Summer Reading Club!

Registration begins on Friday, June 29th at 10 am, but you can sign up any time after that date. Participate in any way you’d like. Join us each week for great programs or read on your own and report in at the library. The TD Summer Reading Club is open to kids of all ages and offers lots of activities and incentives for a summer of fun and learning:

Summer Reading Club Launch Party: Start your summer of reading off the right way!
All Ages - 1:00 to 2:30 pm; Tuesday, July 3rd

Read & Create: Arts Edition: Participants will be introduced to a new book and then do a related arts-based activity to extend the fun & learning. Our goal is to show kids that reading a book can open up a whole world of creativity and to connect that creativity with different forms of artistic expression. This is a Drop-In Program.
Junior (Kindergarten to Grade 3) - Mondays 10:30 to 11:00 am; July 9th to July 30th
Senior (Grade 4 and up) - Wednesdays 10:00 to 10:45 am; July 4th to August 8th

Read & Create: S.T.E.M. Edition: Participants will be introduced to a new book and then do a related S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)-based activity to extend the fun & learning. Our goal is to connect reading with the fun of building, making and experimenting. This is a Drop-In Program.

NEW! Junior Makers: A bit like our Techsplorers, but for the junior set, this program will allow kids aged 6 to 9 to learn about and try out some new tech. Library staff will demonstrate some of our latest tech-toys like LEGO robotics and Makey Makey kits. Learning computational thinking has never been so much fun! This is a Drop-In program.

Summer Preschool Reading Club
You don’t have to know how to read to join the TD Summer Reading Club! Children of all ages can register for the club and participate by attending our story time programs! Pre-Registration is required for all of our Preschool Programs.

Story Strolls
Our popular program for children from 18 months to 5 years, along with their parents or caregivers, is taking the fun and early literacy outdoors for the summer. We’ll be taking a short stroll just outside the library, finding story pages along the way. We’ll wrap up with a nature-based craft that you can take home.
When: Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:15 from July 3rd to August 7th
                                          
Pre-Reader Summer Reading Club      
Children ages 3 to 5 will enjoy a 45 minute session featuring stories, songs and take-home crafts. When: 10 to 10:45 am on Thursdays from July 5th to August 9th                                    

Parent ‘n’ Tot Summer Reading Club 
Bring your toddler for songs, stories and movement activities in this fast-paced, fun-filled half-hour program. For 1 and 2 year olds.
When: 11—11:30 am on Wednesdays from July 4th to August 8th   

Babytime (0 to 18 months)
A half hour of fun for your littlest learner! Parents and Caregivers learn songs and fingerplays to share with baby at home.
When: 11-11 30 am on Thursdays from July 5th to August 9th.
