Alzheimer Resources
We have partnered with Alzheimer Society of Durham Region to bring two programs to the library to support individuals with cognitive (memory) change and their families and caregivers.

Brain Wave Café
A social and informal place for individuals with cognitive (memory) change to meet together socially in the community for stimulating conversation, support and other engaging activities. Friends and family welcome. Light refreshments available.
When: The fourth Thursday of each month, beginning June 22nd, 1-2:30 pm

Next Steps Caregiver Workshop
A full day workshop for family members/care partners of individuals with Alzheimer's disease (or a related dementia).  The workshop is free, but there is a $10 fee for handouts and lunch
When: Saturday, July 8th 10:30 am to 4:30 pm

Zoomer Tech Club
Are you looking for some guidance with your new computer, tablet or cell phone? Our Zoomer Tech Club is and excellent group for seniors who want to learn at their own pace and socialize a bit at the same time. It also provides a great opportunity to help others by trading technology tips and tricks.

Every Saturday from 10 am to 12 pm

This is a drop-in program and registration is not required.
LEGO Contest
Youth, Tweens, Teens and Families can enter their own Lego creations! Pick up a submission form at the Library beginning Wednesday, June 21st.

Submission Date: Thursday July 13th between 10am & 9pm or Friday, July 14th between 10 am and 5 pm

Pick up Date: Saturday, July 23rd between 10am & 5 pm.

There are 4 age categories this year:
1) Ages 8 and under (Youth)
2) Ages 9-12 (Tween)
3) Ages 13-18 (Teen)
4) Canada 150 (Individual, group or family submissions).  Make a creation that reflects Canada's history or what Canada means to you.

The Lego creations will be on display from Saturday, July 15th to Friday, July 22nd. There will be a prize awarded in each category on Friday, July 23rd.

Bonus!  Every entry receives a ticket to your choice of a screening of The Lego Movie (Friday, July 14th at 2 pm) or The Lego Batman Movie (Friday, July 21st at 2 pm)
Techsplorers Club (for Tweens)
Geek out at the Library this summer!  We'll be exploring coding, virtual reality and robotics and more in these 4 fun & informative sessions.

When: Wednesdays, July 26th to August 16th (participants sign up for all 4 sessions)

This program is open to kids ages 10-13 and is free of charge.  Please register at the information desk or call 905-985-7686 x101.  Registration begins June 30th.  Spaces are very limited, so register early!
Hobbit Immersion Camp (for Tweens & Teens)
We're one of more than 60 Public Libraries across North America participating in Signum University's Hobbit Immersion Camp. 
This two week program offers participants the opportunity to explore the Tolkien classic in-depth and participate in fun Hobbit & Tolkien- related projects and activities Age range: 10 to 13 years. 

When: Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 1-3 pm
3x per week from July 11th to 21st only

This program requires pre-registration and spaces are limited, so register early!  This program runs July 11th to 21st.
TD Summer Reading Club
Celebrate Canada all summer long with the TD Summer Reading Club!

Registration begins on Friday, June 30th at 10 am, but you can sign up any time after that date.  Participate in any way you'd like.  Join us each week for great programs or read on your own and report in at the library. The TD Summer Reading Club is open to kids of all ages and offers lots of activities and incentives for a summer of fun and learning:

Read & Create: Arts Edition: Participants will be introduced to a new book and then do a related arts-based activity to extend the fun & learning. Our goal is to show kids that reading a book can open up a whole world of creativity and to connect that creativity with different forms of artistic expression. This is a Drop-In Program.
Junior (Kindergarten to Grade 3) - Mondays 10:30 to 11:00 am; July 3rd to August 11th
Senior (Grade 4 and up) - Wednesdays 10:00 to 10:45 am; July 3rd to August 11th

Read & Create: S.T.E.M. Edition: Participants will be introduced to a new book and then do a related S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)-based activity to extend the fun & learning.  Our goal is to connect reading with the fun of building, making and experimenting. This is a Drop-In Program.   
Junior (Kindergarten to Grade 3) - Wednesdays 2:00 to 2:30 pm; July 3rd to August 11th
Senior (Grade 4 and up) - Mondays 2:00 to 2:45 pm; July 3rd to August 11th

Spy Camp: Learn Spy Skills through reading and hands-on activities.  All ages will experience camp-style games and songs appropriate to their age & skills.  This is a Drop-In Program, you just need to complete the general TD Summer Reading Club registration at the beginning of the summer.

Summer Preschool Reading Club
You don't have to know how to read to join the TD Summer Reading Club!  Children of all ages can register for the club and participate by attending our story time programs!  Pre-Registration is required for all of our Preschool Programs.

New! Story Strolls!  
Our newest program for children from 18 months to 5 years, along with their parents or caregivers, is taking the fun and early literacy outdoors for the summer.  We'll be taking a short stroll just outside the library, finding story pages along the way.  We'll wrap up with a nature-based craft that you can take home.
When: Tuesdays from 10:30 to 11:15 from July 4th to August 8th
                                           
Pre-Reader Summer Reading Club           
Children ages 3 to 5 will enjoy a 45 minute session featuring stories, songs and take-home crafts. When: 10 to 10:45 am on Thursdays from July 6th to August 10th                                     

Parent 'n' Tot Summer Reading Club 
Bring your toddler for songs, stories and movement activities in this fast-paced, fun-filled half-hour program.  For 1 and 2 year olds.
When: 11 to 11:30 am on Wednesdays from July 5th to August 9th    

Babytime (0 to 18 months)
A half hour of fun for your littlest learner!  Parents and Caregivers learn songs and fingerplays to share with baby at home.
When: 11 to 11 30 am on Thursdays from July 6th to August 10th.
