Intro to Stand-Up Paddleboarding with Port Perry SUP 
Have you ever wanted to try stand-up paddleboarding? Now is a great time to get started!
Join Port Perry SUP on Saturday, June 21st and you can learn to paddleboard and help the Library at the same time! Port Perry SUP is running a fundraiser for the Library with part of each lesson going toward programming for children at the Library.

Come out and learn something new in a fun and relaxed environment. If you can stand and hold a paddle, you can do this!

When: Saturday, June 21st 
Hourly lessons (book your time)
Where: Waterfront in Birdseye Park (behind the Library) 
Cost: $40 (includes HST)

Try Gentle Yoga with Penny Sandvold 
Penny has generously donated her time to offer an introductory yoga class here at the library, with 100% of the class fee going directly to the Library.

Learn ancient techniques to increase flexibility, improve concentration, alleviate stress, create greater self-awareness and promote well-being. Along with Asanas (yoga poses) we will employ breathing exercises, hasta mudras (hand positions), chanting and meditation, as well as Qi Gong.

Kent Farndale Gallery logo Drop by the Library for an afternoon of tea & treats and discover some great new reads!  Come and discover a new author or find out more about the titles creating a buzz in in the book biz.  Join us for 'Tea & Books' where Library staff will discuss their latest fiction and non-fiction picks, as well as some of  their all time favourites.

LEGO Engineering Contest

 

Youth, Tweens, Teens and Families can enter their own Lego creations!


Submission Date: Thursday, July 3rd,10 am - 9 pm
Pick-Up Date: Saturday, July 12th,10 am - 5 pm 
There are 4 categories this year:
1) Ages 8 & under (Youth)
2) Ages 9-12 (Tween)
3) Ages 13-18 (Teen)
4) Family Effort (2 or more family members - any age)
There will be a prize awarded in each category on Thursday, July 10th.
The Lego creations will be on display from July 5th to July 11th.
Zoomer Tech Club

 

Come in on Saturdays from 2-4 to talk about technology and get encouragement from your peers.  Sit down with your iPad, tablet or laptop and share tricks and tips that you have learned.  For one hour we will have a library staff member sit in with you to help troubleshoot computer problems. 


When: Every Saturday from 2pm-4pm

This is a drop-in program and pre-registration is not required. 
Early Years Music & Movement
Ontario Early Years presents music & movement for ages 0-6! 
We're proud to be hosting this great new 6 week program for children aged 0-6 and their parents or caregivers.  This hour long program of songs, games and movement, presented by a staff member from the Ontario Early Years Center,  will provide a fun, music-based activity for little ones.  Shake, rattle and roll away the winter blahs!
 
When: Wednesday afternoons from 2 to 3 pm, from July 9th to August 13th

How-to-in-Ten Festival

 

Join us for a day of fun and learning!

 

As a hub of lifelong learning for the entire community, we are thrilled to take part in the first regional 'How-to-in-10' Festival - an entertaining and education symposium where participants can learn a variety of new and useful skills in breezy 10-minute intervals. We all love to learn new things, and this festival makes it fun, easy and free!

 

A broad range of community partners will be on hand to share their knowledge and expertise. Guests that have their event passport stamped by 10 or more stations throughout the day will be eligible to win our grand prize!

 

This event will take place in and around the Scugog Library on

Saturday, May 31st from 11 am to 3 pm.

Learn to Camp with Ontario Parks


Join us for a fun and informative evening that will give you a taste of what camping is like in Ontario parks. Learn about camping, see different types of camping equipment, and hear advice from the experts!

 

This family-oriented program is open to all ages and will include hands-on activities, demonstrations and a presentation led by experienced Ontario Parks staff.

Summer Reading Club 2014

Get ready for another summer of fun with the TD Summer Reading Club!

 

Use your imagination t o embark on an exciting adventure with this year's TD Summer Reading Club Theme - Eureka!
 
Registration Begins on Friday, June 27th at 10 am, but you can sign up any time after that date.  You can participate in any way you'd like.  You can join us each week for reading club programs or read on your own and report in at the library.

This year we're offering a drop-in on twice a week where you can report on what you've read and score points for your team.
