Time:  Starts at 6:30 pm.
Cost:  $1.00 per person.
Tickets:  Can be purchased in the week preceding each movie. Limited quantities are available due to room size.

  • August 5 - The Bourne Identity (14A): Based on the book by Robert Ludlum
  • August 12 - The Illusionist (PG): Based on a short story by Steven Millhauser
  • August 19 - V for Vendetta (14A): Based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore
  • August 26 - Runaway Jury (PG): Based on the book by John Grisham
Parents please be cautioned. Parental accompaniment will be required for any child under 14 if the rating is 14A.
Kids' Movie Matinees

Time: Show begins at 2:00 pm

Ages: All Films are Rated 'General' by the Ontario Film Review Board but Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Summer Fun for Kids!
Little girl with finger paint and big smile. Are you ready for a summer filled with laugh out loud programs and activities at the Library?  Sign  up for the TD Summer Reading Club at SMPL!  We're offering fun programs for kids of all ages throughout the months of July & August.
 
"Bored Games"  -  Join us every other Monday afternoon, beginning June 7th, for Bored Games.  This drop-in program is a great summer boredom-buster.  Kids of all ages can drop in to the Library and play a variety of games.  For all ages.
 
Campfire Nights  -  Campfire nights will be held every other Thursday evening, beginning July 3rd.  All ages are welcome (parents and caregivers too) to an evening of games and stories.   
 
Summer Reading Club   -  Sign up for the TD Summer Reading Club and join us for weekly fun, games, stories and activities.  Junior Club Members (ages 4 to 6) can attend the Junior sessions on either Tuesday afternoons or Wednesday mornings.  Senior Club Members (ages 7 to 10) can attend on Tuesday afternoons or Wednesday Mornings.  Each week has a new theme & you can attend each week, or choose weeks that  fit your summer schedule.
 
You can also participate in Summer Reading Club any time the Library is open.  Just come over to the information desk to  let us know what you have been reading, earn stickers for your SRC poster and fill out an entry for the weekly draw!

TD Summer Reading Club promo How do I join the Summer Reading Club?
Summer Reading Club Registration starts on June 27th, but you can sign up anytime after that as well.  Just visit us here at the Library to register and get your free poster and booklet.
 
How much does the Summer Reading Club cost?
The Summer Reading Club is absolutely free, thanks to financial support from the TD bank!
 
When does the Summer Reading Club take place?
You can participate any time the library is open, starting July 2nd.  Just bring your books to the reporting station and tell us about what you've been reading.   You can earn stickers for your poster and enter to win some great prizes!  We'll also be offering weekly meetings and Summer Reading Club programs throughout July and August.  Check out the calendar insert in this newsletter for dates and times.
 
If someone can't read yet, can they still join?
Yes!  Preschoolers are welcome to join in the fun.  Good listening counts and helps to develop literacy skills.  Pre-readers can go to the reporting station to tell us about stories that have been read to them or they can earn stickers by participating in the preschool storytime programs that we'll be offering at the Library this summer.
Preschool Storytime: New Summer Session!
Mother reading to little girl. Join us for a half hour of fun and stories on Monday mornings in July & August.
Children ages 3 to 5 will enjoy a half-hour of exciting and educational activities.  Join us for stories, songs and crafts.   Preschoolers can participate in the TD Summer Reading Club through this program kids who can't read yet can still earn stickers by listening to stories.

Monday July 14th through to Monday, August 25th (no program on August 4th due to Civic Holiday)

Tea & Books: What Could Be Better on a Summer Afternoon?
Kent Farndale Gallery logo Looking for a good book to read?  Join us for 'Tea & Books' where Library staff will discuss their latest summer fiction picks, as well as their all time favourites. 
Come and discover a new author or find out more about the titles creating a buzz in in the book biz.

Bargains for Book Lovers
Kent Farndale Gallery logo Mark your calendars for August 9th & 10th to stock up your home library.
We're having a Book Sale to help us make room for new titles & raise funds for the Library at the same time.

Come early to take advantage of the great bargains to be had.  We'll have books for children and adults.

We'll also be taking donations of books in new and gently used condition in the week leading up to the sale.  Please call the Library at 905-985-7686 to arrange for drop off.
 
Book Sale Dates: Saturday, August 9th 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday, August 10th from 1 to 5 pm.

Brown Bag Book Club 
Join us for a noon-hour book discussion and light refreshments.  Feel free to bring your own 'brown bag' lunch to enjoy during the book club meeting.

Our 4th annual Snowflake Sale will take place in December, 2008.  Local Artists & Artisans who are interested in participating can find details and download an application form at www.scugoglibrary.ca/gallery.php after July 21st.

The Kent Farndale Gallery is open to the public during the Library's hours of operation.   However, as the Gallery is used for the Library's programs and as a community meeting room, it is occasionally closed to the public during Library hours.  Please feel free to call the Library prior to visiting to  confirm that the gallery will be open for viewing.  We can be reached at 905-985-7686.
