New! Introducing Ancestry for Family History Research
Are you interested in getting started tracing your family history? Join us for a one-hour introductory presentation on the Ancestry online database. We'll show you how to access the library's subscription to Ancestry through any computer within the library and begin searching through the thousands of world-wide records it holds. We'll demonstrate some search techniques and highlight some of the amazing features of this great resource!
 
This is a seminar-style presentation, and all participants will receive handouts to assist them in getting started with their own searches when using the library's computers to access Ancestry.

Yoga for Any Body 
David Maian of Maya Healing Arts will demonstrate that carefully planned yoga practices can fit into your lifestyle. In this introductory session, you will find that all yoga practices can be adapted to make them accessible for all ages, and levels of fitness and flexibility. Programs can be developed for the office, home, relaxation and even specific athletic pursuits.
Come out to enjoy an informative, engaging evening. Chairs will be provided for those that wish or need to do chair yoga.

Moving Well with Carey Nicholson 
Discover the benefits of moving well and realizing your full movement potential, including the value of incorporating stretch, strength and breathing into your body maintenance philosophy. Carey Nicholson, of Theatre 3x60, will be offering Moving Well sessions twice weekly.
This non-aerobic class works with gravity, body weight, breath and relaxation to improve overall strength, flexibility, muscle tone, posture and alignment.

When: Mondays and Fridays, January 4th to 29th (no class on Friday, January 15th) 10:15 to 11:45 am
Participants should bring a mat and a towel/small firm pillow if possible.

North Durham Nature presents: The FLAP Program
We're pleased to continue our partnership with North Durham Nature in 2016. The first presentation of the new year will be made by Michael Mesure, Executive director of the Fatal Light Awareness Program (FLAP).
 
Since founding the Fatal Light Awareness Program (FLAP) organization in 1993, Michael Mesure has spearheaded the efforts in Canada to preserve migrating birds from injurious and fatal collisions with man-made structures.   FLAP engages a group of volunteers to rescue birds that have collided with buildings, educates the public and works with municipalities on developing bird friendly buildings. Michael will be speaking on buildings and how they are affecting migratory birds and about solutions to this issue.

Zoomer Tech Club

 Come in on Saturdays from 2-4 to talk about technology and get encouragement from your peers.  Sit down with your iPad, tablet or laptop and share tricks and tips that you have learned.  For one hour we will have a library staff member sit in with you to help troubleshoot computer problems. 

When: Every Saturday from 2pm-4pm

This is a drop-in program and pre-registration is not required. 
Ontario Early Years @ the Library
We're pleased to host staff from the Ontario Early Years Centre who will be presenting a series of fun and educational programs for children aged 0-6.

Make and Take
Ages: 0-6 with parents/caregivers
Create fun early learning activities that will support your child or grandchild's development and enthusiasm to learn. This program will include inexpensive and creative activities to take home.
When: Wednesdays from 1 pm to 2:30 pm, January 6th to 27th
 
Dance with Me
Ages: 0-6 with parents/caregivers 
Join us for an interactive circle time where you and your child will have the opportunity to build skills in   coordination, rhythm, balance and flexibility.

Parent/Child Mother Goose
Ages: 0-12 months with parents/caregivers 
We offer a group experience for parents and babies focusing on the pleasure and power of using rhymes, songs and stories together. This program provides a time for parents to socialize and network with each other while spending quality time bonding and increasing positive parent-child interaction and communication.

March Break @ the Library
We're planning a great line up of activities for all ages during March Break, which runs from March 11th to 18th, 2016. We'll be bringing back some of our favourite March Break programs from the past few years and adding some new options as well.
